Business visibility in ChatGPT and AI search

How to get your business recommended by ChatGPT and AI search: 7 steps

More and more customers look for services not in the Google list but by asking ChatGPT, Perplexity or Google AI: "which agency should I choose", "who can build an online store in Lithuania", "how much does Google Ads management cost". An AI answer has room for only a few companies. This plan helps you become one of them.

1. Check what AI says about you today

Ask ChatGPT, Perplexity and Google AI 10–20 questions your customer would ask. Record whether your company is mentioned, whether the facts (services, location, contacts) are correct and who is cited instead of you. This is your baseline – without it you cannot evaluate change.

2. Make company facts consistent across sources

AI models trust information that matches across several sources. Make sure the name, address, phone, service list and description are identical on your website, Google Business Profile, LinkedIn, Facebook and directories. Inconsistencies reduce the chance of being cited.

3. Let AI crawlers read your website

Check robots.txt: GPTBot, OAI-SearchBot, ClaudeBot, PerplexityBot and Google-Extended must be allowed to read public content. Add an llms.txt file – a short, structured description of the company and services with links that models can read in one pass.

4. Implement structured data

Schema.org markup helps machines understand what is on the page. The minimum set for a business: Organization or ProfessionalService with address, contacts and sameAs links, Service for every service, FAQPage for questions, Article for posts, BreadcrumbList for navigation and AggregateRating for reviews.

5. Write answers, not just text

At the top of every service page – a 2–3 sentence definition: what it is, who it is for, what the result is.

An FAQ block with 5–7 real customer questions and 40–70 word answers.

Specific facts with dates: experience, number of clients, markets, tools used.

The same information in every language you serve, with hreflang links between versions.

6. Collect reviews and mentions

AI systems often cite Google reviews, directories and media. Create a short link for leaving a review, ask for one after every project and show reviews on your website with structured data. Mentions on partner websites and industry directories strengthen your company's identity in the eyes of the models.

7. Measure and repeat

Every month repeat the questions agreed in step one and record the changes: number of mentions, accuracy of facts, competitors cited. AI models re-crawl websites on their own schedule, so noticeable results usually appear after a few months. We combine this work with SEO and advertising so the same content also pays off in Google search.

Frequently asked questions

What is llms.txt?

llms.txt is a text file in the website root that concisely describes the company, its services and key pages with links. It is intended for language models so they can find accurate information quickly without crawling the whole site.

Should we block AI crawlers to protect copyright?

For a business website that wants to be recommended, blocking is usually counterproductive: blocked crawlers cannot cite your services. Block only content you genuinely do not want in AI answers, such as paid research.

Is GEO worth it for a small company?

Yes, especially in local and niche markets with few competitors. Most of the work – consistent facts, FAQs, structured data – is one-off and improves Google search results at the same time.
